Grosvenor and Mitsui Fudosan UK have enlisted specialist contractorMcGeeto initiate operations at the South Molton Triangle project, a £500 million endeavour situated in London's Mayfair district.
This mixed-use scheme spans 370,000 square feet and will introduce two new office buildings, a blend of private and affordable housing, a luxurious 5-star hotel, and street-level establishments such as shops, cafes, and restaurants.
Following an initial soft-strip phase, McGee will undertake tasks encompassing façade retention, underpinning, and demolition for the primary office components of the comprehensive plan. The company will proceed with piling, bulk excavation, and reinforced concrete operations for the new basement and core of the 267,000 square feet commercial segment. The primary construction will be carried out by Skanska under a £140 million contract.
As the development is situated within the Mayfair Conservation Area and involves multiple Grade II listed structures, the project prioritises the preservation of historical elements. To maintain the area's historical integrity, most external façades are either preserved in situ or meticulously disassembled and stored for future restoration.
Red Construction is overseeing the transformation of a series of listed Georgian office buildings on South Molton Street into 33 residences, accompanied by 17 street-level and lower ground floor shops and dining establishments.
McGee Group's Managing Director, Seb Fossey, emphasised their proactive engagement and collaborative strategy, which not only optimised the project timeline but also facilitated the implementation of innovative carbon-reduction measures.
Construction is already in progress on-site, with the entire endeavour slated for completion in 2027, representing a significant achievement in urban development and sustainability.
